If you’ve ever tried to juggle multiple passions — like producing a musical album while working full-time as a UI/UX designer and developer — you know it’s no easy feat. But when I was working on my latest album Dubdubboom, I found a training system that not only prepared my body physically, but also boosted my creativity and productivity in ways I didn’t expect.

Why I Chose FST-7

Before diving into my Dubdubboom project, I knew I needed a serious physical challenge to match the mental intensity of producing music and handling my design and development work. I stumbled upon FST-7 (Fascia Stretch Training) and was instantly intrigued. This bodybuilding system focuses on pumping the muscles through seven intense sets, specifically designed to stretch the fascia and promote maximum growth.

Now, I’m not a bodybuilder, but the idea of pushing myself in short, focused bursts appealed to me. As a UI/UX designer and web/iOS developer, I’m all about efficiency — getting the most out of every session, whether it’s in the gym or in front of a computer.

Balancing Physical Training and Creative Work

Here’s the kicker: training with FST-7 didn’t interfere with my work at all. In fact, it had the opposite effect. Each workout was intense but relatively short, allowing me to balance my day between my design projects and training sessions. I’d hit the gym, crush an FST-7 workout, and feel a burst of energy that carried over into my design and coding sessions.

The mental clarity I gained from training translated into laser-focused productivity. During my breaks from the intense creative work of developing UI/UX interfaces or coding apps, I would hit the gym. This constant switch between physical and mental activities kept me energized and inspired.

How FST-7 Boosted My Creativity

It might sound surprising, but the structured chaos of FST-7 workouts paralleled my creative process. In both, the goal is to push boundaries. Whether it was designing a slick new interface or arranging a track for Dubdubboom, FST-7 reminded me to stretch beyond my limits, both physically and mentally.

The discipline I developed in the gym gave me the stamina to push through long design sessions and complex coding challenges. Instead of getting bogged down by a tough problem in my iOS development work, I’d take the intensity I cultivated in my FST-7 sessions and channel it into solving technical or design roadblocks. It became a form of cross-training — what I did in the gym improved what I did in front of the screen, and vice versa.

Motivation Through Fitness and Music

While the focus of this story is the connection between my physical training and Dubdubboom, I can’t overstate how important this routine was for keeping me motivated overall. I found that setting personal goals in the gym made it easier to stick to professional goals in my day-to-day work. After all, if I could endure those seventh sets in FST-7, I could definitely knock out a challenging project deadline or finalize a tricky piece of code.

Working on my body for Dubdubboom wasn’t just about looking or feeling good; it was about achieving balance. Balancing fitness, music, and design wasn’t just possible — it became the ultimate way for me to stay motivated and disciplined across all areas of my life.

Final Thoughts

Creating Dubdubboom while following the FST-7 training system was one of the best decisions I’ve made. It not only prepared me physically for the album release, but it also honed my mental focus for my design and development work. Far from being a distraction, the workouts motivated me to push harder in all aspects of my life.

If you’re feeling stuck in your career or creative pursuits, maybe the key lies outside your usual routine. Sometimes stepping into the gym and pushing your limits there can help you break through barriers in unexpected places.

At the end of the day, it’s all about balance — finding the rhythm between fitness, work, and creativity, and using one to fuel the other. For me, FST-7 wasn’t just a workout; it was a tool that shaped Dubdubboom and supercharged my life as a designer and developer.

That’s my journey of mixing fitness, music, and design. If you’ve been looking for a way to stay motivated, maybe it’s time to switch things up, hit the gym, and see how it impacts everything else!
